police cruiser was partially shred when jammed into the base of the pole. the offduty officers was heading northbound on branch avenue where the posted speed limit is 55 miles per hour. >> we're looking into all factors involved in this crash. including speed. it appears the cruiser was above the speed limit. >> reporter: at the corner of branch and serats, there are four northbound lanes. the witnesses said the driver of the white suv for some reason went from the left turn lane across other lanes and collided with the police cruiser. officials say that officer bowden was not wearing his seatbelt. and the driver of the suv is hospitalized and will face traffic charges, say police. kevin bowden was a local kid who attended clinton grove elementary school when driegers was there.
